Did you know? Only male waterbuck grow those impressive, ringed horns, which can reach up to a metre in length. The females remain hornless.

🐃 A Partnership in the Wild | Tomo Safari Lodge 🐦

Sometimes, the smallest birds play a surprisingly important role alongside Africa’s giants. ❤️

Red-billed oxpeckers are often seen perched on buffalo, feeding on ticks and other parasites found on their skin. This relationship benefits the birds by providing a reliable food source, while the buffalo may benefit from having some parasites removed.

But it’s not entirely one-sided! Oxpeckers can also feed on wounds and blood, so their relationship with large mammals is more complex than a simple cleaning service.

A perfect example of how every species plays its part in the African bush. 🌿
