The Lilac-breasted Roller is one of Africa’s most colourful birds, often seen perched proudly above the savanna before launching into the air after its prey.

In Afrikaans, it’s known as the “troupant”, a name linked to its spectacular rolling and tumbling display flights.

And here’s a beautiful little fact: during courtship, the male shows off his brilliant feathers in an impressive aerial display. His vibrant colours and acrobatics are part of his way of attracting a mate — earning these stunning feathers a playful reputation as his “marriage feathers.” 💙💜
