A little unexpected rain…...and we’re not complaining!

We’ve had some wonderfully unusual rainfall at the Zambezi lately, bringing with it a welcome coolness and a fresh breath of life to the landscape.

The rain washes away the dust, deepens the greens and somehow makes everything around the cottages pop again. (We will share photos soon). The gardens look refreshed, the air feels cleaner, and the Zambezi takes on that beautiful, ever-changing character we love so much.

It’s the perfect kind of African weather, warm, gentle rain followed by those glorious sunny moments.

And perhaps best of all, it’s a little breathing space before the “silly season” arrives, when the temperatures rise, and summer really announces itself.

For now, we’re enjoying the cool, the green and the rain.

National Wildlife Day | 4 September

At the Zambezi, wildlife isn't simply something you go looking for; it is all around you.

The call of birds in the morning, hippos in the river, monkeys moving through the trees, elephants passing nearby and the quieter creatures that reveal themselves when you take the time to look.

These wild neighbours are part of what makes staying on the Zambezi so special. They also remind us that protecting wildlife means protecting the natural habitats and spaces they depend on.

Today, on National Wildlife Day, we celebrate the incredible wildlife that calls this part of Africa home, and the privilege of sharing their world, even for a little while.

Today, on this United Nations-recognised International Day for People of African Descent, we celebrate the rich heritage, culture and contributions of people of African descent around the world.

Here at Zambezi River Cottages, we are incredibly proud to call Africa home.

From the mighty Zambezi River flowing past our doorstep, to the warmth of our people, the stories carried through generations, the colours, creativity, wildlife and landscapes that make this continent so extraordinary. Africa is a place of deep heritage and endless beauty.

Happy Birthday, Dawn!

Today we’re celebrating our wonderful manager, Dawn!

Dawn is often the first friendly face our guests meet, welcoming them to the cottages and always ready to lend a hand and make sure everyone feels at home.

But her care doesn’t stop there. She has a wonderful eye for the gardens, working alongside our grounds team to plan and place the plants so beautifully within the natural surroundings. Together, they help keep our cottages and gardens looking their very best.

We’re so grateful for all the care, energy and heart that Dawn brings to the cottages and to our guests.
