Kevin the kookaburra made an appearance in the MYERS windows in Melbourne. We spotted him sitting on top of a bookcase very proud of himself. Well worth a visit with the projected light show on the outside of the building

Last night we hosted several bike riders on the Hunt 1000. It’s a bike run from Canberra to Melbourne which can take as little as four days with an average of 10-12. It’s 1032 kms with 22,000 metres of climbing.
Richard from Canberra and Brendon from Castlemaine were just two of the guys who stayed around for a cooked breakfast this morning and a warm bed last night. Today Richard is aiming for Noojee and completeing the ride on Friday at the Edinburgh Gardens in Fitzroy. 150 bike riders started together with several dropping out to injuries and bike fails.
We wish them all well in the final legs of their journey

This week in The Quarters we hosted Phil Robinson and his wife Anne who are pecan nut farmers from Port Macquarie.
Phil has walked the Australian Alpine Walking Track four times and at one time held the record with two other walkers, John Riley and Kylie Salm in the self supported category. This is where the hikers are supported with food drops. They still carry their own base pack which weigh around 51/2 kg which holds their tent and everything else except food.
The record they made was 11 days and nine hours. To do this in that time they ran the easier bits. Not in Victoria but in the northern part of Kosciusko where it is flatter.
This record has since been broken with the new record holders sleeping 27 hours less to achieve it.
I am still in awe of these adventurers who complete this track of 655kms no matter how long it takes!

Some light entertainment

After years of dignified neglect on the Princes Highway, the legendary pothole outside Bairnsdale finally gave up pretending to be a minor inconvenience and went full entrepreneurial.

Commuters first noticed the warning signs when their hatchbacks started disappearing for eight-hour shifts, re-emerging covered in coal dust with tiny pay slips tucked under the wipers. VicRoads issued a statement saying they were “monitoring the situation,” which the pothole interpreted as permission to install floodlights, a canteen, and a union. By the time anyone thought to fill it, the hole had reached the Latrobe Valley, employed 400 miners on rotating rosters, and was posting record quarterly yields.

The repair crew eventually arrived with a single bucket of hot-mix, took one look at the size of the damage, muttered “yeah, nah,” and quietly reversed back to Melbourne. The pothole now pays more royalties to the state than half the actual mines and has its own page with 87,000 followers who leave reviews like “Great depth, friendly foremen, five stars—would fall in again.”
