What a day at Surfside Grill!!!

Today was the grand opening celebration for Surfside Grill’s new home here with us at Tsawaak RV Resort & Campground, and it also marked their 10-year anniversary! Congratulations to the Surfside team on an amazing milestone! We’re so grateful to have you here as part of the Tsawaak and Tin Wis community.

It was wonderful seeing so many people come out to enjoy delicious BBQ, tastings from Tofino Brewing Company and Barnside Brewing Co., and live music from Geoff Johnson that kept the good vibes flowing all afternoon.

ƛ̓eekoo to everyone who joined this afternoon to celebrate. čuu!!!

Take a walk through art, culture, history, and place.

In collaboration with the Tofino Arts Council, we invite you to experience a self-guided Arts & Culture Walk beginning at the Tsawaak Visitor Centre and leading down to tinwis beach.

Start at the Tsawaak Visitor Centre and scan the QR code to the left of the entrance to learn more about the building itself, designed by architect James W. Tuer and built by Tla-o-qui-aht owned Hithuiis Spirit Construction Ltd.

From there, follow the bear paw prints down the hitinqisiik ťašii (beach path), passing the amphitheatre where you can learn about the traditional Tla-o-qui-aht Freight Canoe and its enduring cultural significance.

As you continue toward the beach, you’ll arrive at the two čiinuł. On the left stands Tiičswina, We Survived!, carved by Joe Martin. Scan the QR code to learn more about the piece and the story it carries. On the right is Maht-Mas-Uuthluuk — “The Chief that looks after his people,” carved by Joe Martin, Gordon Dick, and Kelly Robinson. To further explore the story behind Maht-Mas-Uuthluuk, we invite you to read the Tin Wis Resort blog, Raising Maht-Mas-Uuthluuk — “The Chief that looks after his people.”

Beyond the two čiinuł, the walk continues onto tinwis beach itself. If you are facing the ocean, look to the right side of the shoreline where you will see a whale carving donated to the community by Tla-o-qui-aht carver Hjalmer Wenstob. From there, take in the final artwork of the experience: the land, the ocean, and the beauty of nature all around you.

ƛ̓eekoo and enjoy.

You and me, plus a cabin in načiqs.

Slow mornings with coffee in hand, salty air drifting through the trees, beach walks at sunset, and evenings spent by the fire. Our Longhouse-style cabins are made for those quiet summer moments together, the kind you wish could last a little longer.

Crafted from cedar and inspired by traditional longhouse design, each cabin offers a warm and comfortable place to settle in after a day exploring the coast.

Just the two of you, and a little time away from everything else ✨

“Every beach is unique and cherished and irreplaceable.”

These words, shared by Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks Guardian Gisele Martin, remind us that the beaches throughout ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Tribal Parks are more than places to visit, they are life-giving spaces stewarded by nuučaan̓uł Peoples since time immemorial.

“Each one has been created out of shells of different animals or sand from the last ice age or thousands of waves that have helped grind rocks down,” Gisele shares. “Everything has taken a lot of time to create, and we want to protect these places for future generations into the far, far future.”

At Tsawaak, we are grateful to exist within this place and encourage all visitors to help continue that care by learning about and taking the ʔiisaak Pledge.

At Tsawaak, our Longhouse-style cabins offer a quiet place to settle in, surrounded by cedar, natural light, and the calm rhythm of the coast. It’s the perfect excuse to take a break, get comfortable, and enjoy a little time to yourself.

Forgot a book? Or ready for something new? Browse the selection in our Visitor Centre gift shop or pick one up from the community style-library inside Moss & Milk Café, then return to your cabin and ease into the day.

A slower pace, a warm space, and time well spent 🌿📖

Important update for your stay at Tsawaak.

Starting tomorrow, May 7 at 12 PM, an Open Fire Prohibition will be in effect for the District of Tofino. This means that all wood fires, including campfires and fire pits, will not be permitted until further notice.

While this is in place, propane or gas fire pits and cooking stoves are still allowed, so you can continue to enjoy your time outdoors in a safe and responsible way.

We appreciate everyone’s care in helping protect this place, especially during the warmer, drier months.

For more information and full details, please visit the District of Tofino website: https://tofino.ca/open-fire-prohibition-in-effect-thursday-may-7-2026/
