One of the most eye-opening experiences you can have during your stay happens away from the game drive vehicle.

Guests have the opportunity to visit a working K9 Anti-Poaching Unit and meet the incredible dogs and handlers helping protect some of Africa’s most vulnerable wildlife, including rhino and pangolin. Watching them work gives you a real appreciation for the dedication, training, and teamwork that goes into conservation behind the scenes.

It’s a side of the bush most people never get to see, and one that stays with you long after your safari ends.

Ask your butler about arranging a visit during your stay.

We recently had the incredible opportunity to join Hannes, the head warden of , to check in on a male African Wild Dog.

This particular male had previously been caught in a snare that pulled tight around his lower body, causing some pretty severe injuries. The team is always very careful about when they intervene, but since these dogs are highly endangered, and this being the the alpha male, the decision was made to step in. Helping him recover means the pack keeps its breeding male and a fighting chance for the future.

It was amazing to watch the vet team work so swiftly while constantly monitoring him. In this clip, Raina, an expert on Wild Dogs, answers a question about how old this alpha male is.

A massive thank you to the team for letting us witness the vital work that goes into protecting this species.

No two game drives are ever the same, and that’s what makes them so good.

One moment you’re following fresh tracks, the next you’re watching a herd move through the bush or stopping for a closer look at something you almost missed. It’s not just about what you see, but how it all unfolds along the way.

And every so often, there’s a little surprise stop along the route, just to take it all in before heading back.

What’s your must-see on a game drive?

Talk about a close encounter!

This massive elephant bull made it very clear that we were definitely not invited to the viewing party.

He came so close you could actually smell the musth. That musky scent, called musth, is caused by a surge in testosterone in healthy male Elephants, it’s clear a signal to other Elephants (and humans) to stay away! Elephants Bulls in musth are highly restless, agitated, and aggressive.

It’s nature’s way of telling you to give them some serious space, which is exactly why we high-tailed it out of there!

Have you ever experienced that scent for yourself?
