Over the past week a group of lodge guides and reserve owners were put through their paces studying and training as level 1&2 first aiders. This is a really important and vital skill required in our industry and environment. Some of you may know that performing CPR effectively is perfectly in time with the beat of this famous BeeGees song and the title is so apt too, Staying Alive.
Many thanks to JC Le Roux from Med-OSH for presenting a very comprehensive course that we all learnt and benefited from.

This is a message that we give to all our guests and hopefully all the lodges in the lowveld have a similar policy. We have a responsibility to not only educate and offer our guests the opportunity to enjoy and marvel at the wildlife here, but also to protect it especially from those that treat our wildlife as something to be exploited.

The last couple of days have seen several herds of elephant visit the waterhole, during the day and at night. .abroad was not so lucky as she missed the best by just an hour or so. At least she did experience one bull come in for a drink before she left camp.

🐘 A sighting of a lifetime! 🐘

Our guests from Wales, UK, were treated to an unforgettable experience earlier today  "a sighting of a lifetime" in their own words when this incredible herd of elephants arrived at Umgede Hide for a drink.

What amazed them most was just how quietly these giants approached the water. Despite their size, they seemed to appear out of nowhere, moving with surprising stealth before gathering to drink right in front of the hide.

Umgede Hide FOMO has definitely set in too! They’re finding it impossible to leave, worried they might miss the next magical wildlife moment.

And honestly, can you blame them? At Umgede Hide, every visit comes with the chance of witnessing something extraordinary. 🌿✨

One of the hardest parts of guiding wildlife experiences is telling guests that the sighting they waited two days for appeared within an hour of their departure.
My heart is always a little sore when this happens, but that is the reality of the wild. Wildlife doesn't work to our schedules. We don't control the animals—they decide when and where they want to be.
Perhaps that's what makes these encounters so special. The anticipation, the hope, and yes, the FOMO. When the connection doesn't happen, it can be disappointing. But when the stars align and that dream sighting finally unfolds, the emotions are almost impossible to put into words.
The beauty of wildlife is that there is always another chapter to be written. Another sunrise, another safari, another opportunity for the magnetic poles to connect.
Sometimes the dream sighting is simply waiting for your next visit. 🦁✨

We were so thrilled to be presented with a fantastic book written by our good friend .photo_film and and .robins.718. They spent two relaxing days soaking up the peace and quiet you can only enjoy at antares bush camp.
Eden, Soul of Africa is a wonderful coffee table book with some absolutely stunning photos, which only a photographer with the skills like Armand possess can be achieved. We are thrilled to know that going forward our guests can request the guidance of Armand to help improve their photographic skills.
