Last night, Tom gathered his friends and family for dinner and drinks in our restaurant.

Tom is also one of the butchers at Hammonds of Bainbridge who supply all of our meat, including the delicious handmade sausages and burgers we serve.

We love Yorkshire, and use Yorkshire produce where possible, be it beers from Wensleydale Brewery or Yorkshire Dales Brewing Company Limited, gin from Wensleydale Spirit Company, Yorkshire Tea, Harrogate Water, or Three Peaks Blend coffee from Coffee Care in Skipton, any thirst can be quenched from our local suppliers.

Did you know the โ€œ๐Œ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ๐ž ๐‡๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐žโ€ was built in ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ by George and Elizabeth Winn, as their private residence. The imposing three story building was originally named โ€œ๐–๐ข๐ง๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐žโ€.

George Winn was born in 1808 in Nappa Hall. He was a local solicitor and one of the โ€œFour Men of Askriggโ€. Both George and Elizabeth were very active in the local community and heavily involved with the church.

Their daughter, Margaret Winn presented the central stained-glass window on the north aisle wall in Askrigg church, and also the window to the right of this in their memory.

Their son George, who was also a solicitor, tragically died in an accident whist returning from a visit to see his fiancรฉe in West Witton. The impressive East window was installed in the church in 1877 as a memorial to George Winn. This was paid for by his friends.

Plans from 1928 show 11 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a library, a drawing room, a dining room and kitchen. Externally the property boasted a tennis lawn, extensive gardens, coach house, saddle room, stables, scullery and piggery.

Our entrance is watched over by two carved stone lions. These lions were positioned there by Mr Winn, to show his wealth and social standing in the community ๐Ÿฆ.

We believe there is a hidden staircase connecting one of our bedrooms on the first floor, to the master bedroom on the second floor. Access would have been via a concealed door in the master bedroom. This route would have been used by the housemaids to light the fires and empty the chamber pots. We are yet to open the secret door!! ๐Ÿ‘ป ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Over the years the property has been remodelled and repurposed as apartments, a guest house and most recently a hotel, pub & restaurant.
