Scotland will experience a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday 12 August 2026. 🌒☀️

Across Scotland, around 88–92% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon at the peak of the eclipse, with the exact percentage and timing varying depending on where you are.

Peak obscuration will occur at around 7pm, with some of the highest coverage across the west and islands. The Isle of Arran is expected to see just over 92% coverage, while Glasgow, Oban and Fort William will see around 91%.

Of course, Scottish weather may have other plans 👀 so it’ll be worth checking the forecast closer to the time.

Never look directly at the Sun during an eclipse. Use certified eclipse glasses or a safe indirect viewing method such as a pinhole projector.
