Jabulani Safari

Jabulani Safari A soulful safari, refined in luxury. Home to one of the region's most remarkable rescued elephant herds. Jabulani is not your usual safari lodge.
(564)

Set within a Big 5 private game reserve in the Greater Kruger area, Jabulani Safari is a Relais & Châteaux member and recipient of 2 MICHELIN Keys. Set within a Big Five private game reserve in the Greater Kruger Park of South Africa, Jabulani’s six suites, two-bedroom Villa Somopane, and three-bedroom Zindoga Villa ensure a soulful, personalised and intimate stay. It has a story that has inspired

the world. Jabulani was built to help look after a herd of rescued elephants more than twenty years ago, and has led to the establishment, by Adine Roode, of South Africa’s first dedicated elephant orphanage, alongside the elephant homestead, called HERD (Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation & Development). Today the Relais & Châteaux Jabulani lodge is a special marriage of conservation and hospitality, a place to meet magnificent wildlife, rest deeply, wine and dine under open skies, enjoy sundowners with elephants, and soulfully reconnect with nature and yourself. Each spacious suite is discrete, luxurious and complimented by both a private deck and plunge pool. Guests have the opportunity to learn about the elephant herd, spend time with the devoted elephant carers and hear their insightful stories about their life journeys with these incredible animals, as well as watch the elephants during their midday swims or while they forage in the wilderness. As our guest, you play a crucial role in helping us and HERD to support the rescued herd and orphans, and protect their future. Your elephant levy helps us to sustain these remarkable animals. There are also plenty of other experiences to be had, such as game drives, walking safaris, bird-watching, exploring the little creatures, helicopter flights, hot air balloon rides, and spending time at our onsite facilities, such as our luxury bush spa. Jabulani offers a one-of-a-kind, all-inclusive dining experience. We don’t just believe in constantly innovating with the freshest ingredients, but also in switching up our locations. Enjoy fine cuisine in the best setting, from breakfast bush picnics and sundowner canapés, to star-lit private dinners or gatherings in the boma. Our JabuJuniors programme introduces children to a wildlife wonderland to experience a host of exciting activities, whilst learning about Africa’s diverse wildlife.

Every new day begins with an open door.

At Jabulani, that's usually a pretty beautiful place to start.

Here's to slow mornings, fresh air, and another day waiting to unfold ☀️

Ask a guide to describe their job in three words...

It's harder than it sounds.

Three words can never fully capture a role that asks for so much more.

Being a guide means early mornings and late evenings. It means endless curiosity, constant learning, quiet patience, and a deep respect for the wilderness they call home. It means sharing knowledge, creating unforgettable experiences, and never knowing what each day in the bush will bring.

On this World Ranger Day, we want to thank our incredible guiding team for the passion, professionalism, and dedication they bring to every safari.

Happy World Ranger Day 💚

Not every giraffe has the same story to tell.

This visitor has just one visible ossicone, likely the result of an old injury. While it certainly catches your eye, giraffes are remarkably resilient and often adapt well to injuries they experience in the wild.

It's a wonderful reminder that every animal we see has lived a life full of challenges, encounters, and experiences.

There is a very specific kind of appetite that comes after a sunrise game drive.

Two hours in the early morning air. Wildlife sightings. Coffee somewhere out in the bush. Perhaps a little too much excitement to remember that you haven't eaten yet.

Then you return to breakfast.

Fresh croissants, passion fruit, cheeses, microgreens, and all the small details that make you want to sit down and take your time.

At Jabulani, the morning starts out in the bush and ends around the breakfast table 🥐

Every afternoon tells a story.

It begins with the anticipation of a game drive, where every turn holds the possibility of something extraordinary.

As the sun starts to dip, the pace changes. Glasses are filled beside the waterhole, stories are shared, and the evening settles over the bush.

Then comes one of Jabulani's most treasured moments. The elephants begin their familiar walk home, making their way through the reserve alongside the carers who have shared their lives for so many years.

By the time you return to the lodge, you realise the experience was never about one spectacular sighting. It was about the journey, the people you shared it with, and the feeling of being completely immersed in the bush.

If you've ever wondered whether impalas get the zoomies...

We think this answers your question 🦌

Wildlife isn't always graceful. Sometimes it's energetic, unpredictable, and wonderfully entertaining.

It's these unscripted moments that remind us why no two game drives are ever the same.

Even while he sleeps, the work doesn't stop.

Oxpeckers spend their days searching through a buffalo's coat for ticks and other parasites, enjoying an easy meal while helping to keep their host a little more comfortable.

It's one of the bush's many partnerships, where both species benefit. These fascinating relationships are happening all around us, often without us even noticing.
