If you haven't heard a leopard's unique call before, you might be surprised to hear what they really sound like...

Their call is known as "sawing" as it almost sounds like someone sawing a tree 🪚 and is typically used to anmounce their territory to any intruders.

It's very rare to catch a leopard displaying this fascinating behaviour - so this was an extra special treat for our guests! Well done to Amani Head Guide Jeremy for capturing it 🎉

There's a feeling you get when surrounded by tens, or even hundreds, of buffalos. Everywhere you look, there's movement, interaction, sound...a constant low murmuring between mothers and offspring, bulls and cows, that's almost like electricity in the air 🐃🐃

But, don't be fooled by that cute little face! There's a reason they're one of the Big Five - originally known as the five most dangerous animals to encounter on foot in the African bush...

Happily, viewing them safely from our safari vehicles, it was just another tranquil, magical morning for our guests!

Look closely - one of these cubs is INCREDIBLY rare!

In a completely unexpected encounter, a lioness suddenly appeared in the road as we were driving the main access road back to Klaserie Drift.... Following her lead, first one, then two cubs trotted into view - a special moment by itself.

Then, to our amazement, one more little bundle emerged from the grass - a white cub! 😲

These almost vanishingly rare lions have a recessive gene that normally lays dormant. However, now and again, a cub inherits the exact combination of genes to cause it to lack pigment in its fur, skin, and sometimes even eyes.

As quick as they arrived, the cubs and lioness melted back into the undergrowth. A surreal glimpse into the secret lives of these wild animals - perfectly demonstrating what makes being in a truly wild, unfenced nature reserve truly unforgettable. You never know what, or who, could be around the next corner!

The South African winter in the lowveld is wonderfully mild in the daytime - reaching pleasant highs of around 25 degrees - whilst the chilly evenings give the perfect excuse to sit beside a roasting fire and indulge in our mouth-watering cuisine 🔥

At Klaserie Drift Misava, evenings are quite literally centred around the boma fire, with an expansive dining deck and open-air bar all over-looking the lodge waterhole so guests can keep an eye out for any wild visitors....
