🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAPITSI! 🎂

Today, the teams at Raptors Lodge & ZaZu’s Kitchen celebrate one of our wonderful team members, Mapitsi, on her birthday! 🥳

Mapitsi started her journey with us in housekeeping and, when an opportunity came along to grow into a new role at ZaZu’s Kitchen, she took it with both hands. From housekeeping to welcoming guests as a waitress, and learning her way around the kitchen as a cook — you have embraced every challenge with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

You have taken to your new role so naturally, bringing your friendly smile, warm hospitality and eagerness to learn to everything you do. We are incredibly proud to see you grow and become such an important part of the ZaZu’s team.

Mapitsi, may your birthday be filled with happiness, laughter and all the good things you deserve. Thank you for your hard work, dedication and for always being willing to step up and learn along the way.

🦅SHE GOT A NEW HAIRSTYLE!🛖

You may have noticed a little renovation happening at Raptors Lodge… one of our chalets recently got a brand-new thatch hat!

After a year of seriously unpredictable Lowveld weather — sunshine, heat, heavy rain, wind and everything in between — the old thatch had finally reached the end of its journey.

So we took it off, cleared away the old rotten thatch and gave her a fresh new covering.

But there's more to thatching than simply making a chalet look beautiful.

A properly thatched roof is a skilled craft. The thatch is carefully layered and secured to create a natural roof covering that helps protect the building from the elements, while giving bushveld properties that unmistakable African safari character.

A well-built thatched roof can typically last around 15–20 years, although its lifespan depends on the type and quality of thatch, workmanship, roof design, weather exposure and regular maintenance.

It's one of the reasons thatch has become so iconic across Limpopo and the Lowveld. It belongs here. It blends into the bush, keeps that natural safari feel and has become part of the character of so many lodges and bushveld properties.

And for us, it's also about something important:
Looking after what we have. ❤️

And a huge THANK YOU goes to Simon and his team for the incredible work they put in on this one. 👏
Come rain or shine, they kept going — working around our busy lodge schedule, keeping to the deadline and making sure the job was completed without compromising the experience of our guests.

Your hard work and dedication are noticed and very much appreciated.

Behind every beautiful lodge are a hundred little maintenance jobs that guests may never see — replacing, repairing, refreshing and investing in our properties so they continue to look their best and feel just as welcoming as they should.

This year has certainly put our roofs to the test… 😂

So it was high time she changed her hairstyle!
