Tshukudu Bush Camp

Tshukudu Bush Camp Situated in the Central Lowveld near the Blyderiver Canyon and adjoining the greater Kruger National
(280)

Tshukudu Game Reserve was started in 1980 on what used to be a cattle ranch. Although many antelope species as well as giraffe were already on the property a variety of animals had to be reintroduced. One of the first were rhinoceros hence the name "Tshukudu" which means "rhino" in Sotho. Today, Tshukudu is teeming with game, the birdlife is prolific and the bush has reverted to its pristine state

. The many Acacia and Marula trees give a real feel of the African Bushveld. Ian and Sylvia Sussens built up the Self Catering Bush Camp and the environmental educational camps. After Ian's passing away in 2010, Sylvia and her son - David continue to run the business. David has inherited his Dads passion for the bush and loves to share his deep understanding of nature with all the visitors, children and adults alike.

There is no moment on safari quite like seeing a leopard.

Silent. Powerful. Effortlessly graceful.

The leopard is the true master of stealth, moving through the bushveld with confidence and disappearing into the landscape as if it was never there. Every step is deliberate, every movement calculated, making each sighting feel like a rare privilege.

Known for its incredible strength, a leopard can carry prey heavier than its own body high into the branches of a tree—an extraordinary display of power and determination. It is a predator that relies not only on strength, but also on patience, intelligence, and perfect timing.

At Tshukudu Bush Camp, every game drive holds the promise of encountering one of Africa’s most iconic Big 5 animals. Whether resting in the shade of a marula tree, scanning the bush from a rocky outcrop, or silently patrolling its territory at dawn, the leopard never fails to leave a lasting impression.

Some animals are seen.

A leopard is experienced.

Come and discover the magic of Africa’s most elusive big cat at Tshukudu Bush Camp, where every safari has the potential to become an unforgettable story.

The power of the African Buffalo
There is something truly humbling about standing in the presence of an African Buffalo.

At Tshukudu Bush Camp, the reserve is home to some incredible big bulls, with massive horns and powerful builds that command respect. These giants of the bush are often called the “Black Death”, not because of aggression alone, but because of the strength, determination, and resilience they display in the wild.

Watching a mature buffalo bull move through the bushveld is an unforgettable experience. Every step carries weight, every stare demands attention, and every encounter reminds us why the buffalo is considered one of Africa’s most formidable members of the Big 5.

As the winter grass turns golden, the buffalo stand out as living symbols of Africa’s raw power. Whether they are gathering at a waterhole, moving through the veld in a herd, or resting beneath the trees, these magnificent animals leave a lasting impression on everyone who sees them.

Join us at Tshukudu Bush Camp and experience the thrill of encountering some of the reserve’s impressive buffalo bulls in their natural habitat.

There are few sights in Africa as breathtaking as watching Duma, our magnificent cheetah, disappear into the bushveld.

His golden coat, covered with perfectly placed black spots, is more than beautiful—it’s nature’s masterpiece. Every colour, every marking, and every movement has been designed to blend seamlessly with the dry winter grasses, making him almost invisible until he decides to reveal himself.

Cheetahs rely on stealth, patience, and incredible speed. Before the chase comes the silence, and before the sprint comes the perfect camouflage. It is a reminder that nature wastes nothing. Every detail has a purpose.

Seeing Duma in his natural environment is a privilege that never loses its wonder. Whether he is resting beneath a tree, scanning the horizon, or moving gracefully through the veld, he represents the wild beauty that makes Africa so extraordinary.

Join us at Tshukudu Bush Camp and experience the magic of the African bush, where every game drive offers the possibility of meeting one of nature’s most elegant predators in the landscape that was made for him.

Winter in the African bush has a magic all of its own.

As the sun slips below the horizon, the bush transforms into a world of golden sunsets, crisp air, and unforgettable wildlife encounters. The Big 5 roam freely through the open veld, often more active during the cooler months, creating breathtaking moments around every corner.

But when darkness falls, an entirely different Africa awakens.

The silence is broken by the distant roar of a lion, the haunting call of a spotted hyena, and the gentle chirping of countless nocturnal creatures. A spotlight reveals bush babies leaping through the trees, porcupines wandering the roads, civets quietly hunting, and perhaps even the elusive leopard moving through the shadows.

Winter nights at Tshukudu Bush Camp are not simply cold—they are alive. Gather around a crackling campfire beneath a sky overflowing with stars, breathe in the fresh bush air, and experience Africa exactly as it has existed for thousands of years.

Every sunrise brings new tracks to follow. Every sunset promises another unforgettable adventure.

Come and experience the wild beauty of winter, where every day belongs to the Big 5, and every night tells a different story.

There is something truly remarkable about the African bushveld and its ever-changing colours.

At Tshukudu Bush Camp, every season paints a different picture. The lush greens of summer gradually give way to rich golds, warm browns, and soft shades of amber as the landscape transforms. Each sunrise and sunset adds its own brushstroke, creating scenes that can never be repeated.

The changing colours are more than just beautiful. They tell the story of Africa’s seasons, its wildlife, and the natural rhythms that have shaped this land for centuries.

Whether you are watching elephants move through golden grasslands or enjoying the last light of day across the bushveld, there is a timeless beauty here that captures the heart and reminds us why Africa remains one of the world’s greatest wilderness destinations.

One of the special moments at Tshukudu Bush Camp is spotting wildlife that is not often seen in the area.

This Side-striped Jackal sighting was a real treat. While many visitors are familiar with the Black-backed Jackal, the Side-striped Jackal is far less common in this region, making every encounter a memorable one.

It is sightings like these that remind us that the African bush is full of surprises. Every game drive offers something unique, and sometimes the rarest moments become the most unforgettable.

Tshukudu Bush Camp continues to deliver incredible wildlife experiences in the heart of the bushveld.
