Some of the best trophies don't hang on a wall—they're measured in unforgettable moments on the water.

Whether it's a trophy walleye, a hard-fighting northern pike, or a smallmouth bass you'll be talking about for years, the waters of Kabetogama and Namakan Lakes have a way of creating memories that last a lifetime. Every cast is a new adventure, and every fish has a story.

Since 1942, families, fishermen, and adventurers have been making memories along the Ash River Trail. 🌲🎣

This old photo is a reminder that while times change, the spirit of this special place never does. Generations have gathered here for quiet mornings on the water, fish stories at the dock, and evenings spent around the campfire under the Northwoods sky.

As we begin a new chapter for the resort, there will be exciting updates and improvements ahead, but one thing will always remain at the heart of this property — preserving the rich legacy, stories, and memories that have made this destination so special for over 80 years. Through historic photos, shared memories, and the traditions that guests have built here, we’re proud to carry that history forward for future generations to enjoy. ❤️

Here’s to honoring the past while building the future along the Ash River near Voyageurs National Park.

Fish aren't the only thing biting around here!

While the walleye and northern pike are keeping anglers busy on the River nad Lakes near Voyageurs National Park, another kind of treasure hunt has been turning up some amazing finds.

A recent authorized metal detecting adventure around the resort uncovered several Canadian coins dating back to the 1960s and 1970s—little pieces of history hiding just beneath the surface for decades.

It makes you wonder about all the stories these coins could tell. Were they dropped by travelers crossing the border for a fishing trip? Families making summer memories? Adventurers exploring the Northwoods?

Whether you're casting a line, exploring the shoreline, or searching for hidden treasures, there's always something waiting to be discovered here on the Ash River.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve ever found on vacation?

The recent rain across the North Country has made a noticeable difference! We're happy to report that the smoke from the surrounding wildfires has cleared for now, and we're once again enjoying beautiful blue skies here on the Ash River near Voyageurs National Park.

While there are still fires in the area, we are grateful for the much-needed rain, we know this progress wouldn't be possible without the incredible dedication of the firefighters, incident management teams, law enforcement, and countless support personnel working tirelessly to protect our communities and public lands. Thank you for your hard work, long hours, and unwavering commitment.

We continue to keep everyone affected by the fires in our thoughts and are hopeful that the recent rainfall will help firefighters gain even more ground in the days ahead. Thank you again to everyone serving on the front lines, and we look forward to welcoming guests to enjoy the beauty of the Ash River under clear Minnesota skies.

We wanted to share a quick update for our guests and friends planning a visit to the Ash River and Voyageurs National Park.

Wildfires continue to burn in parts of northeastern Minnesota, and our hearts are with the communities and firefighters working tirelessly to protect people, homes, and our beautiful Northwoods. We are incredibly grateful to the first responders, wildland firefighters, law enforcement, and support crews putting in long days under challenging conditions. Thank you for everything you do.

The good news is that the Ash River area and Voyageurs National Park remain open to visitors. At this time, the fires are not directly impacting recreation in the park. However, due to the elevated fire danger, campfires and charcoal grills are currently prohibited throughout Voyageurs National Park. Propane and gas grills and camp stoves are still permitted.

The forecast is showing increasing chances for rain later this week, and we're hopeful it brings some much-needed relief to the forests and to the crews battling these fires.

If you're planning a visit, we encourage you to check the National Park Service (NPS), the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the incident command team for the latest fire conditions, restrictions, and updates before you travel.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Ash River and encourage all visitors to follow current fire restrictions, be mindful of changing conditions, and help keep our Northwoods safe.
